What these technologies do
Cookies are small pieces of information that a website can ask your browser to store and send with later requests. Local storage is a separate browser mechanism that can retain information for a website without automatically attaching it to every request. Both can be used for preferences, essential functions or non-essential tracking, depending on implementation.
The field-guide functions
The navigation menu and scroll-reveal effects keep only temporary page state. The work-note composer creates text in the current page and does not use cookies or local storage to retain the draft. No analytics, advertising pixels or third-party embeds are included in the field-guide functionality.
| Function | Information involved | Persistence |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile navigation | Whether the menu is open | Current page only |
| Scroll reveals | Whether an element has entered view | Current page only |
| Work-note composer | Text you enter and generated output | Current page; browser restoration settings may also apply |
| Copy | Prepared text in your device clipboard | Controlled by your device and clipboard settings |
| Download .txt | A text file saved at your request | Until you delete the file |
Consent choices
Where a site-level consent interface is displayed, use its controls to accept optional technologies or keep essential functions only. Any stored preference is separate from your work-note content. Optional storage that requires consent should not operate before that consent is given. Clearing site data can remove a previously saved choice and may cause the interface to appear again.
The local composer does not rely on an optional tracking preference to prepare your text. Choosing not to allow optional technologies should not prevent you from reading the guides.
Your browser controls
You can inspect and remove cookies and local storage through your browser's site-data or privacy settings. You can also block cookies or restrict clipboard access. Blocking some browser capabilities may affect copy or download functions, but you can still read and manually select the prepared text when available.
A downloaded file is not a cookie and is not removed by clearing site data. Similarly, copied text may remain in your clipboard until replaced or cleared. Manage these through your device rather than the site's storage settings.
